The Nintendo DS line has had many redesigns up to the present 3DS, but one thing that hasn't changed are the tiny, easily lost cartridges. Enter Memorex's $20 Universal Game Selector Case, announced as part of its gaming accessory lineup for E3. The UGSC stores up to three games and hooks up to the cartridge port on any DS, letting you swap between them using a signal routing switch. We've seen cases similar to this in the past, but Memorex's take is the first to support 3DS titles as well. Based on the renders, the unit looks to make for a weird fit and some noticeable extra thickness (10.5mm to be exact), especially on the DSi XL, but hopefully we'll get a better idea of how it feels in hand at E3. From a functionality perspective, the case does seem rather useful for those with forgetful tendencies, if a bit underwhelming for anybody else. Memorex will also be displaying its new third-party PS3 and Wii motion controllers at the E3, which are viewable in the gallery below, and there's a press release with details after the break.

Climbing My Family Tree: Wisdom Wednesday: Searching Blogs for ...

When Dan Lynch first released his book Google Your Family Tree, which I highly recommend, he made a presentation to my local genealogical society. The minute I got back from his talk, I turned on my computer and put a few of his ideas to work--and quickly found a blog comment written by my long-lost first cousin, who I hadn't seen in decades!

As time went on, I developed a few useful tricks to supplement Dan's suggestions, tips I've shared in my own presentations to local genealogical societies. For example:

• Search blogs only. To search only blogs and only on genealogy, start at the Google home page. Enter your surname, add the word "AND," then enter the word "genealogy." Next, move your mouse along the menu at the top of the page until you see the drop down menu under the word "more" (as shown in this screen shot). Click on "blogs" and then click to start your search.

• ?Use quotation marks around full names. When searching for a specific ancestor, search for the full name in "First Middle Last" order (typing "Thomas Haskell Wood" in the search box, with quotation marks as shown) as well as in "Last, First Middle" order (typing "Wood, Thomas Haskell" in the search box, with quotation marks). And don't just try "First Middle Wood"--also search possible variations like "First Middle Woods" and "Woods, First Middle."?

• Browse for surname genealogy blogs. Look at the lists of blogs on Genealogy Blog Finder and GeneaBloggers. You just might find one or more genealogy blogs devoted to the surnames you're researching.

• Include a search box on your blog. Make it easy for people to find surnames on your blog by including a search box, as I did at top right, just below the blog name/description.

Cheniere Energy, Inc. announced that it has agreed to sell 8,700,000 shares of its common stock in an underwritten public offering under an effective shelf registration statement.

The underwriter will have an option to purchase up to an additional 1,300,000 shares from Cheniere to cover any over-allotments.

The offering is expected to close and settle on June 6, 2011.

ARM Servers Still 'Several Years' Away, its President Says

The president of ARM Holdings has sought to temper the expectations around ARM-based servers, saying those systems might not ship in volume before 2015.

"We firmly believe this is going to happen. We know it is starting to happen right now. But it's going to be several years" before ARM-based servers are sold in significant numbers, ARM president Tudor Brown said during a press briefing at the Computex trade show in Taipei on Monday.

Several companies are working on ARM-based processors for servers, including Nvidia, Marvell, and Calxeda (formerly known as Smoothstone), a company that ARM itself invested in two years ago.

ARM has attracted attention in the server market because its chips consume less power than the x86 processors made by Intel and Advanced Micro Devices, and because those companies' powerful Xeon and Opteron chips are considered an overkill for certain high-volume, Web-based workloads, such as serving up Web pages or search results.

ARM began its own research and development into servers in 2008, and servers will one day be an important market for the company, Brown predicted. But ARM needs to build a whole "ecosystem" around its chips before they take off.

That means ensuring that sufficient software packages are available for ARM-based chips, and persuading server manufacturers that they should invest in designing ARM hardware.

ARM is doing its part. The next version of its Cortex architeture, the A-15, will add support for virtualization and 64-bit software, two basic requirements for servers. But the company is apparently keen to manage expectations about how quickly ARM servers will come about.

"We think its going to be 2014 or 12015, realistically, before you see any volume from ARM" in the server market, Brown said.
