CSN: A's pound Angels for eighth straight victory

ANAHEIM -- The Oakland Athletics completed a perfect road trip with an 8-1 win over the Angels. The A's swept both the Astros and the Angels and have won eight consecutive games. The A's have scored 65 runs over the last eight games and return home on Friday.

At the Plate
Andy Parrino got his first hit as an Athletic when he hit a ball through the infield and stretched it into a double. His hustle paid off when he scored on a two-out single by Jed Lowrie to make it a 1-0 game.

The A's capitalized on Parrino's effort in the third inning, but missed a major scoring opportunity in the second inning. They loaded the bases but Seth Smith grounded into an inning-ending double play.

They had another rally stopped in the fifth inning when Jed Lowrie grounded into a double play with runners on first and second and no outs. Coco Crisp, who reached on a single that extended his hitting streak to eight games, was stranded on third base. He has also scored at least one run in eight consecutive games.

Josh Donaldson didn't leave anything up to chance in the sixth. He pulled a two-run homer over the fence and into the bullpens in left field to give the A's a 3-1 lead. It was Donaldson's first home run of the season. Seth Smith followed with a double. The Angels intentionally walked Crisp and then called on reliever Kevin Jepsen.

Chris Young made sure Mike Scioscia's plan didn't work. He doubled down the left field line to make it a 5-1 game. It was his 200th career double.

Yoenis Cespedes had been stuck on two home runs since the opening series in Oakland. He is stuck no more. He launched a no-doubt homer into the rock pile in center field in Anaheim. It gave the A's a 6-1 lead, and might have chipped the fake rock structure.

The A's added two more runs in the ninth inning. Seth Smith drove in Derek Norris with a double. Smith would have been out at second, but Howie Kendrick couldn't come up with the ball. Donaldson made a heads up play and scored amidst the confusion.

Smith finished the day 4 for 5 and is hitting an even .500 this season.

Starting Pitching Report
A.J. Griffin won his second consecutive game. He beat the Angels by throwing eight innings of one-run ball. Griffin allowed five hits, walked one batter and struck out two.

Jarrod Parker and Tommy Milone combined for 8 1/3 innings in the last two games, so Griffin's performance helped preserve the bullpen.

The only run Griffin allowed scored in the fourth inning on three consecutive hits. After Howie Kendrick drove in the game-tying run with a double, Griffin struck out Chris Iannetta and got Peter Bourjos to ground out with runners on second and third.

Bullpen Report
Evan Scribner pitched a scoreless ninth inning. With all of the A's offense, Scribner has appeared more frequently in the ninth than closer Grant Balfour.

In the Field
Donaldson made a nice stop on a ball in the first inning when he knocked it down with his chest and threw out Albert Pujols. He also started an inning-ending double play in the sixth inning. The catcher-turned-third baseman is making a name for himself as a solid defender at the hot corner.

Attendance
The Angels announced an attendance of 43,533.
