Stairclimbing Trolleys for Transport Companies: The Skipper 250 ...

If you are in search of a stair climbing trolley that will successfully outperform all other stair climbing equipment available on the market currently, you should opt for either the Skipper 250 or the Skipper 350. These two are ideal stairclimbing trolleys for transport companies. In this article, we have discussed about the features and specifications of these two stair climbing trolley models.

Let us start by informing you about the most prominent features of the stairclimbing trolleys:

* They can be used for lifting weight of up to 350kg. * They possess tipping functions that are fully controlled. * These devices come equipped with durable frames made up of robust aluminum. * For additional safety, they possess automatic brakes and dual chain drives. * Their height adjusting features help in balancing while carrying loads up and down the stairs. * Two of the most fascinating features of these trolleys are their leveling platforms and adjustable handles.

The Skipper 25 and 350 can be described as the most advanced electric stair climbing trolleys available on the market currently. They come with remote controls, automatic battery chargers, securing straps, standard sheet metallic bases and the unique auto-tipping back feature. These features make them more effective and much safer than all other trolley models available today. If you want to carry heavy objects up and down the stairs or want in places with tight landings, you should not look being these devices.

Why these stair climbing trolleys are considered to be the safest stair climbers? The equipment operates by transferring the weight they are carrying either to the stairs or the ground; this allows the operator to work without worrying about safety even in extremely critical situations. Using these devices becomes even easier as interactions between the operator and the load reduce significantly; this means the operator does not need supporting the weight he/she is carrying anymore. Both Skipper 250 and 350 are extremely versatile. They can be used for carrying loads across extremely tall steps. This increases the devices' usability even further. The Skipper possesses the ability of altering the tilt of the transported load according to your requirement. As a result, you can use it even in exceptional conditions.

The next most fascinating feature of the Skipper is its motorized track. The specially branded tracks of these trolleys will allow you to travel effortlessly on uncertain floorings, dirt tracks and up or down the slopes. The section below will offer you more information about the Skipper 250 (SK250) and Skipper 350 (SK350).

SK250: You can use this equipment for carrying objects weighing up to 250 kg. Its height is 126 cm and its frame extends up to a height of 250 cm. It can run at any speed ranging between 0 and 52 steps per minute. Its ascent and descent battery lives are respectively 1000 steps and 3000 steps when fully loaded.

SK350: You can use this stair climbing trolley for carrying objects weighing up to 350 kg. Its frame can be extended up to a height of 126 cm. When fully loaded, SK350's ascent and descent battery lives are respectively 800 steps and 2400 steps.

Two Roof Covering Styles to Enhance the Feel of Your Residence

The roof covering system of a home can make the adage "two heads are better than one" occur, in both figurative and literal sense. Some people aren't simply happy with one roofing style, as they would like to up the bet by going for yet another roof covering style. The outcome is an appealing roofing style that raises a residence's visual and, definitely, market value.

While numerous suburbs have houses with a minimum of one roof covering design, homes with a minimum of two are a common sight. Stars and very important individuals with a huge house are more most likely to use two roof covering styles to cover the entire house area. It can be said that different sections of the home demand different roofing styles. Here are a few crucial people whose residences have two or even more roof covering styles.

Ryan Seacrest

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest recently bought a home belonging to TV host Ellen DeGeneres for almost 50 million dollars. This realty in Beverly Hills mainly has a flat roof but a grey hip roof covering at the center. The hip roof gets rid of the plainness and recursion of flat roof coverings to provide it an adjustable design.

Justin Bieber

Teen singer Justin Bieber recently purchased a home for $ 6 million in Calabasas, California. This realty has a roof covering design so complex you can not identify what roofing designs are featured at first glimpse. Many of the home holds a cross hip roofing design, however some areas of Bieber's brand-new manor has gable roofs put in.

Steven Tyler

The frontman of Aerosmith Steven Tyler, currently the judge of American Idol, purchased a residence in tropical Maui for $ 4.8 million. The principal house features an unique hexagonal hip roof covering, generally seen in gazebos, while a secondary house comes with a gable roof. Besides the texture and color of the roof covering, this Maui home gives off a tropical environment appropriate for Hawaiian life. Salt Lake City roofers say that roof covering combinations may indicate your personal traits.

Blair Bangerter

Disney gave the green light for house builder Blair Bangerter to construct the renowned home in the movie "Up." Now housing a California family, a look-alike in Herriman, Utah, entices hundreds of tourists every single day. Salt Lake City roofing professionals determine the house having a simple hip roof covering with a Dutch gable roof variant for the garage.

You can also look at more houses of celebs with several roof covering designs by watching the slideshow at abcnews.go.com. Additionally, ask roofing specialists to recognize whether or not your home is fit to have two types of roofing Salt Lake City UT homes have.

Collective Efforts to Save the World | Pennapic Arts and Entertainment

There is an interesting video on TED recently to 17 July 2012 by Jeff Drummond wrote titled: ?Jamie Drummond: Let us host-source destination in the world?, which is a summary: ?In 2000 the UN set eight goals for a better world through the reduction of poverty and disease ? . lead to a period in 2015 as the deadline approaches, Jamie Drummond of ONE.org by the surprising success of the eight Millennium Development Goals, and the proposed restart of the public is for the next 15 years. ?

Collective Efforts to Save the World

Collective Efforts to Save the World

Of course, crowdsourcing a clever concept and strategic no-brainer for many things, but let us ensure that our goals are in the realm of reality, and not imaginary problems or misuse of these abundant resources with the strategy to solve we crowd source. If we human CO2 and heat the planet by reducing CO2 emissions at the expense of abundant and cheap energy is insisting, then everything we do harms the industry, economy and livelihood, see the point.

Well, if the positive side of all this will see it is a good book I would recommend for you: ?All the problems in the world,? by PJ O?Rourke, Atlantic Monthly Press, New York, NY published . 1994, 340 pages, ISBN: 0-87113-580-9.

You see, we all too often the hunt reduces the problem of tightened and then throw millions if not billions of dollars, but ultimately failed. In our running and running world of political correctness, groupthink and false empathy, we must do everything wrong to touch us ? and that Murphy?s law and the law of unintended consequences, and we found that all the real problems are to bind caused by us, and so if we can not see, reality, then we are not the right person to try to fix what you see? Please consider this and think about it.

How science is rewriting basketball wisdom

In a multibillion-dollar sport like basketball, one might expect that trainers had figured out every nuance of aerodynamics, mechanics and all things Newtonian to increase the rate at which the ball goes through the hoop.

Think again.

Take free throws. For 50 years professional players in the United States have sunk these shots from the "charity line" ? so called because the points are supposedly such sure things they're gifts ? at a rate of about 75 percent.

That figure seems to reflect a fundamental limit on human performance, like a three-minute mile. But mechanical engineer Larry Silverberg of North Carolina State University doubts it. He believes the reason free-throw percentages are not higher is that no one had properly analyzed them to determine the optimal trajectory.

Using a computer simulation of millions of trajectories based on shots by the best free-throw shooters, Silverberg and colleague Chau Tran determined how various factors affect the chance of success. The magic formula: a launch angle of 52 degrees, three revolutions per second of backspin, and aiming for a spot 7 centimeters (2.8 inches) back from the center of the basket, toward the back of the rim.

"With backspin, if the ball hits the rim or backboard, the contact deadens the ball," said Silverberg. "That means it comes off slower, stays closer to the basket and is more likely to fall in."

Backspin that exceeds three revolutions per second is even better: At nine revs per second, Silverberg and Tran calculated, a free throw that hits the very top of the backboard will drop straight down for a point. But 9 rps is too difficult for players to achieve.

An unexpected target
The target point is even less intuitive. Many players aim for the center of the basket, assuming "nothing but net" makes success more likely than hitting the rim, which can produce unpredictable bounces.

The NCSU scientists' calculations show that the spot that maximizes the chance of a field goal is 2.8 inches behind the center of the 18-inch-across basket. That puts the back of the ball just over an inch from the back of the rim.

The main reason that target is better than the net's center is that shooters aren't perfect. Aiming for the center of the basket increases the chance of hitting the front of the rim and having the shot drop straight down.

"This is the least well-known aspect of free-throw shooting, so it offers the most opportunity for improvement," said Silverberg. "For anyone but the best shooters, the ball has a better chance of going in if you aim between the backboard and the center of the hoop, not the center itself."

The optimum spots
Finally, the launch angle, or arc. A launch angle of 52 degrees minimizes velocity compared to shots with more arc or less arc. Less velocity means less chance of a rebound that misses the basket. The millions of shots that went into Silverberg's simulation showed that 52 degrees produced the greatest chance of sinking the shot for a 6-foot-6-inch (198-centimeter-tall) player.

Since players can't easily tell the angle at which they're launching a free throw, a more useful strategy is to shoot so the top of the ball's arc is even with the top of the backboard. That's doable with practice, and works no matter how tall the player is.

    1. Tale of the Elvis mouse: Why can't you be true?

Science editor Alan Boyle's blog: A British artist?s plan to create a mouse with Elvis Presley?s DNA has set websites buzzing over the past week, but right now it?s no more than an art-show concept.

    2. Pesky germ inspires landmark 'virtual organism'
    3. Wet climate may have fueled Mongol invasion
    4. Search for dark matter particles turns up zilch

The NCSU computer simulations also filled a gaping hole in basketball wisdom: Although lay-ups and bank shots off the backboard are the most common shots in basketball, no one knew with any certainty the optimum spot on the backboard for making the ball drop in for two, or three, points.

Simulations showed that the optimal banking points varied with the location of the shooter, as expected. Completely unexpected was that these points form what Silverberg calls "a magical location: a 'V' near the top of the shooter's square," the rectangle above the basket that's painted or taped on the backboard.

To determine where on the V a bank shot should hit to have the greatest chance of going in, a shooter imagines a vertical line behind the backboard. Where it intersects the imaginary V on the backboard is the sweet spot where a bank shot should hit to score a basket.

Players can't do all of this mental imagery in the frenzy of a game, of course, but by doing it in practice they can get an intuitive feel for where to aim from different points on the court. "It's a training tool," said Silverberg. From near the free throw line ? that is, in front of the basket ? the ideal bank point is lower; from the sides of the court it's higher.

Knowing this "can improve your field-goal shooting 20 percentage points," said Silverberg.

SexAbility: Don't look past my disabled body - love it

Read more:?http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/life/blogs/citykat/dont-look-past-my-disabled-body--love-it-20120712-21ycy.html#ixzz210VlX1m2

When I was younger, I vowed that I would never have a relationship with another disabled person. Certainly until I was about 17, I was kind of ?in the closet? about disability. I knew I had one ? heck, I got my first motorised wheelchair when I was 2? ? but I did my very best not to acknowledge it. I didn?t hang out with other disabled people (ew!) and I would certainly have never entertained the prospect of a relationship with one.

In fact, teenage-me thought that if I could snag myself a non-disabled boyfriend, that meant I?d made it. I?d win the battle to just be ?a normal person? like everyone else. I?d blend seamlessly into the crowd and wheel off into the sunset with my perfectly-proportioned prince.

Then, something happened. I read a book about the?social model of disability?and I began to deconstruct my own ableist prejudices. I realised that a huge part of my reluctance to have a relationship with someone else with a disability stemmed from the fact that I was still viewing disability as my own personal deficiency. Once I realised that may of the issues in my life stem from society and the environment, everything changed. Realising that disabled people are not wrong for the world we live in, but that the world is simply not yet right for us, was enormously liberating.

So I started hanging out with some other people with disabilities and enjoyed myself immensely. There?s something deeply wonderful about the shared experience of difference in a friendship. And some of these new friends of mine were in relationships; some of them with other disabled people, and some with non-disabled folks. I no longer dismissed the idea of a relationship with another disabled person entirely, but there was still this nagging reluctance.

It is often assumed that sexuality is a concept that simply doesn?t apply to people with disabilities. I wasn?t asked by a doctor if I was sexually active until I was 27. I always had to volunteer that information. Some doctors even responded with blatant surprise. This isn?t exactly encouraging from some of the most highly educated members of our communities, is it?

A good friend of mine with mild Cerebral Palsy ? very vanilla as disabilities go ? was taken out of sex ed classes at school because her parents thought that the less she knew about sex, the better.

Because of all this discomfort around sexuality and disability, it?s no wonder that having a relationship at all can feel like an act of rebellion.

In many ways, it seems the path of least resistance is for us to have a relationship with someone else with a disability. Society seems to be more comfortable if we ?stick with our own kind?. This attitude used to apply to interracial relationships as well, and some people are still quite uncomfortable with that. I?ve been in the same relationship for six years, but prior to this I got the same relationship advice from a lot of people.

?There's a guy at my gym in a wheelchair, you guys should go out.?

?I know this guy with Cerebral Palsy, you guys would be really cute together.?

?I bet you really like that Peter Dinklage* guy, hey??

I really resented the idea that people seemed to want to pair me off with someone else with a disability like we were a cute little matching set.

Disability is further complicated by media portrayal. People with disabilities are set up by the media and painted as ?undesirable?. We fall, sometimes quite drastically, outside the boundaries of what is considered conventionally attractive. We talk about non-disabled people who are attracted to us as either sexually deviant (as in the devotee fetish community), or we talk about them as being able to ?look past? disability.

The notion of ?looking past? disability to somehow see ?the real person? is one I have come to find deeply offensive. I spent my teenage years thinking that I needed to find someone who could ignore my physical body and see my ?attributes? - my intelligence and humour, my mad knitting skillz. I thought that the only logical way for someone to find me attractive would be for them to ignore what I look like. It didn't occur to me until years later that my body is also an attribute.

I realised that I didn?t want that kind of relationship. I didn?t want someone to ignore my body. I wanted someone who?d look directly at it and love it, wonky bits and all.

I?ve also come to realise that the wonder and acceptance I found as a 17-year-old when I started hanging out with other people with disabilities ? the shared experience of difference ? is one of the things that I definitely want in a relationship. In my partner (who is currently leaning over my shoulder saying ?you need to make this much saucier for CityKat!?) I have found that. There?s something really wonderful about sharing your life with someone who really ?gets it?. For me, that trumps my natural tendency to rebel.

And really, when you strip away all the superficiality and aesthetics, isn?t that what we all want? Just because society doesn?t expect love and sex to be a priority for people with disabilities, doesn?t mean we aren?t every bit as invested in those things as everyone else.

Of course there is no right way to have a relationship, whether you have a disability or not. But I?m pretty glad I stopped trying to go against what I felt I?should?aspire too, and just decided to do what I want. And what I want is far more important than what other people expect.

*Yes, I absolutely love The Dink. More than Ryan Gosling. Because he?s smoking hot, and I wouldn?t have to ask him to sit down before I planted one on his lovely stubbly face.

Montenegro Douses Blaze on Hill Above Capital :: Balkan Insight

Residents of Podgorica were shocked on Monday night when Mt Gorica, the hill after which the capital is named, caught fire.

The blaze threatened to spread to nearby houses and even to the adjacent embassies of Slovenia, Germany, Greece, Romania and Britain.

Within three hours, however, troops, police, fire brigades and volunteers contained the blaze.

The cause was most probably a crack in a high-voltage power cable.

On Monday night, a fire also broke out in the wood close to the Podgorica Aluminum Plant, but this was also kept under control.

The Ministry of Interior has warned since beginning of July that the extremely hot weather is increasing the risk of fires, especially in the area of Podgorica, the nearby town of Danilovgrad and on the coast.

However, fires have also broken out in several places in the north, burning down several homes.

For more than 10 days, a fire has continued to blaze in the Tara canyon and in the nature reserve at Crna Poda.

Helicopters lent by the Serbian and Croatian military as well as local police have been battling the flames.?

Some media and members of the public have criticized the authorities for the blazes, saying they were clearly under-equipped and unprepared to cope with the outbreaks.

Britain may call in more troops to guard Games

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain may have to call up more soldiers to guard the Olympic Games after a failed private sector recruitment drive left an embarrassing hole in security.

The security fiasco and doubts over the ability of London's transport system to handle large numbers of visitors to the Games have overshadowed an event which the government still hopes will give recession-hit Britain something to celebrate.

The omens did not look good as athletes from across the world arrived in London this week, some tweeting frustration with transport delays amidst a media storm over security fears.

Passengers arriving for the Games could also face queues and chaotic delays after a union representing passport officials said its members had voted to back a strike.

And, after months of rain and floods, the Games have already earned the nickname of the Soggy Olympics in the British press.

"There are challenges and the military have stepped up to the plate and I salute them for it," Prime Minister David Cameron said during a visit to Afghanistan. "Let's not call it a soggy Olympics, let's call it a great Olympics."

The glitch came after security firm G4S said it could not provide a promised 10,400 security guards to watch over the Games venues, exposing the government to accusations of poor planning.

To fill the gap, the defence ministry called up an extra 3,500 troops - many just back from serving in Afghanistan - to take the armed forces contribution to 17,000 personnel.

More troops could now be deployed to control crowds at the Games if G4S struggles to find a minimum requirement of 7,000 staff. An extra 2,000 troops may be needed.

Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said more troops would be deployed if needed.

"If there is a requirement for more military support, it will be provided," he said.

HORSES, COWS, GOATS AND CHICKENS

Britain is keen to soothe security fears in a city where suicide bombers killed 52 people in attacks on the transport system the day after London was awarded the Games, in July 2005.

The latest victim of London's roads and rail network was the July 27 opening ceremony, due to be held in the evening, which has been trimmed to avoid a possible late-night stampede for trains and buses home, officials said.

A daredevil stunt bike performance was cancelled following rehearsals, with some reports suggesting the event was removed over fears that security checkpoints would be unable to cope with a rush of more than 60,000 spectators.

Due to be watched by a huge global television audience, the extravaganza will recreate scenes from the British countryside and includes a cast of 10,000 performers, 12 horses, three cows, two goats and 10 chickens.

"We need to make sure the show comes in on time, to make sure spectators can get home on public transport," a spokesman for London 2012 said.

SECURITY

On Tuesday, G4S Chief Executive Nick Buckles suffered an excruciating grilling by irate politicians, agreeing during a parliamentary hearing that the failure to recruit enough guards had left the firm's reputation "in tatters".

"Let's be clear, if G4S don't fulfil their contract we will go after them for the money to make sure that they help pay for the military personnel that have been brought in," Cameron said.

Hugh Robertson, the minister responsible for the Olympics, said contingency plans were being drawn up for the extra troops, and the government would pay for the extra security to make up for G4S's failings.

London's underground trains and narrow, congested streets is under strain from commuters, tourists and shoppers at the best of times, but it must cope with an extra burden in the coming weeks.

In a piece of positive news for organisers, Britain's official statisticians said on Wednesday the Olympics had given a much-needed jobs boost to the economy.

However, the Olympics feel-good factor has yet to be felt by many in Britain, according to an opinion poll which showed excitement had fallen noticeably this week.

Some events have failed to attract the expected interest. Half a million tickets for Olympic football matches were withdrawn and stadium capacities reduced this week due to a lack of demand.

Transport problems have also contributed to a difficult last week before the Games. Taxi drivers brought traffic outside parliament to a standstill on Tuesday in protest at their exclusion from reserved Olympic traffic lanes.

Some relief for the organisers came after London bus workers accepted an offer of an Olympic bonus, ending the threat of a strike next week.

Should I change my indoor air conditioning coil?

When replacing your air conditioner or heat pump, the answer is most likely yes. The efficiency ratings that are advertised for an air conditioner or heat pump are based on the performance as part of a matched system. If only the outdoor portion is changed, the efficiency and savings could be less than that of a matched system.

Filters

Most houses with forced-air furnaces have a standard furnace filter made from loosely woven spun-glass fibers designed to keep it and its ductwork clean. Unfortunately, they don?t improve indoor air quality. That takes a media filter, which sits in between the main return duct and the blower cabinet. Made of a deeply pleated, paper-like material, media filters are at least seven times better than a standard filter at removing dust and other particles. An upgrade to a pleated media filter will cleanse the air of everything from insecticide dust to flu viruses. Compressed, media filters are usually no wider than six inches, but the pleated material can cover up to 75 square feet when stretched out. This increased area of filtration accounts for the filter?s long life, which can exceed two years. The only drawback to a media filter is its tight weave, which can restrict a furnace?s ability to blow air through the house. To insure a steady, strong airflow through the house, choose a filter that matches your blower?s capacity.

Tuning up the distribution side of a forced-air system starts with the blower. The axle should be lubricated, blades cleaned and lower motor checked to insure the unit isn?t being overloaded. The fan belt should be adjusted so it deflects no more than an inch when pressed. Every accessible joint in the ductwork should be sealed with mastic or UL-approved duct tapes. Any ducts that run outside the heated space should be insulated.

Where's my Windsurfer? Athletes bring tons of bags

LONDON (AP) ? Kenneth Andreasen, the head coach for the U.S. Olympic sailing team, is not a man who travels lightly. He's already sent 10 shipping containers full of sailboats, motor boats, masts, sails, trailers and other marine equipment to the Olympic sailing center at Weymouth.

Andreasen and his team of 16 sailors and assorted coaches are arriving Monday morning at Heathrow Airport with what can only be described as gobs more luggage. He will have plenty of company ? Monday is crunch time for Olympic arrivals at Europe's busiest airport because that's the day the Athletes Village opens at London's Olympic Park.

"We go through a lot of sails. We bring them on the plane," Andreasen told The Associated Press by telephone from Portsmouth, Rhode Island. "Windsurfers can be checked in as baggage, too."

The very topic of luggage can send regular airline passengers into apoplectic fits. How much more anxiety, then, for Olympic athletes who are sending everything from horses to bikes to vaulting poles to an island nation to pursue their lifelong dreams?

Officials at Heathrow are well aware that losing or breaking the bags of high-profile athletes could be a public relations disaster, and they have geared up to ensure that doesn't happen.

"We are expecting a lot of teams and a lot of bags," acknowledged Nick Cole, who heads the Olympic project for Heathrow. "We are going to be on show on Monday."

The airport usually handles 100,000 to 110,000 arrivals a day, but that will swell to 120,000 on Monday, many of them Olympic VIPs. Another big arrival day will be July 25, two days before the games' opening ceremony.

In response, Heathrow has recruited 1,000 Olympic volunteers clad in bright pink to help and created special teams to deal with oversize items such as javelins and bikes. Hundreds of immigration agents will be on the job to ease the long queues that have plagued the airport of late. Rows of Olympic VIP buses will be waiting to whisk teams and coaches to the Athletes Village.

At least, that's the plan. Cole promises it will also be the reality.

"We've got into our battle rhythm," he said.

Peter Nicholas, 59, from Camberley, south of London, is one of those Heathrow volunteers, happily working shifts that can start as early as 4:30 a.m. He already has helped the head of the Swedish Olympic committee.

"It's a once-in-the-lifetime experience," he said. "We're helping to make the games work."

Luggage is a constant worry for top athletes flying around the world.

"Most of our sailors have two to three boats that we ship around the world for competitions. Sometimes it takes a couple of months," Andreasen said. He estimated the U.S. sailing team has brought "50-60 boats, I'm not quite sure" to Britain, including about 10 motorized coaching boats.

But his team still needs to take enormous amounts of sailing gear on the plane. They are athletes who get soaked for hours each day and need specialized clothing to protect them from the chill of the ocean and the constant abrasions that come with high-stakes racing.

In all, the sailors face up to 26 days of sodden clothing, beginning when they reach Weymouth, in southwest England, on Tuesday through daily practices on the water and then battling for medals in races from July 29 until Aug. 11, the day before the London Olympics end.

The American sailors already have spent weeks practicing in the waters off Weymouth, where Andreasen says they got to experience Britain's soggy spring ? the wettest June on record ? for themselves.

"Everyone said "It never rains this much!'" he laughed. "Maybe all this bad weather will go away and it will be blue sky for the whole Olympics."

Maybe, but he's not counting on it.

"Weymouth is going to be a good venue for us," Andreasen predicted. "We are ready for anything, not taking for granted that it (the weather) will be one way or the other."

Global Oil demand to rebound in 2013: IEA

Last Updated : 14 July 2012 at 09:45 IST

LONDON(Commodity Online): Global oil demand is expected to rebound in 2013, rising by 1.0 mn barrels per day(mb/d), compared to 0.8 mb/d in 2012, says International Energy Agency (IEA) in its monthly report for July.

IEA expects that the glum economic situation will improve next year, although it may not be able to reach the levels attained before the 2008 financial meltdown. As the report says,?muted economic recovery in 2013 supports a 1 million barrels per day rise in oil demand.?

The report, which includes IEA's first forecast for 2013, says that global oil demand will be 1.1% higher than 2012, averaging 90.9 million barrels a day.

The report says,?Growth in non-OPEC supply (+0.7 mb/d in 2013) plus 0.3 mb/d of incremental OPEC natural gas liquids, should match demand growth, leaving an underlying ?call on OPEC crude and stock change? for 2013 that is identical to 2012?s level of 30.5 mb/d.?

It adds,"Global oil product demand will average 90.9 million barrels per day (bpd) for 2013, with non-OECD demand exceeding that for the OECD for the first time ever in [the second quarter of next year], a trend that is unlikely to be reversed.?

Non-OECD demand is forecast to be 45.7 million bpd next year, 600,000 bpd more than OECD demand, according to the IEA.

However, OPEC had predicted a slower growth demand for next year in its monthly report for July.

Autistic man survives 3-week ordeal in Utah desert

(AP) ? An autistic man lived on a few frogs he caught and roots as he wandered for weeks in the remote Escalante Desert of southern Utah until being rescued, emaciated but alive.

William Martin LaFever, 28, of Colorado Springs, Colo., told rescuers that in addition to the bits of food he scavenged, he drank water from the Escalante River while attempting to walk from Boulder, Utah, to Page, Ariz., a distance of approximately 90 miles or more by the route he appeared to be taking.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Department estimated he had traveled about 40 miles over at least three weeks before he was found Thursday.

"It is some of the most rugged, unforgiving terrain you will find anywhere on Earth, jagged cliffs, stone ledges, sandstone, sagebrush, juniper," sheriff's spokeswoman Becki Bronson said in a telephone interview.

"Where William was hiking, there just isn't anyone out there," she said. "There are no people. There are no towns."

The sheriff's department said it was remarkable that searchers aboard a helicopter were able to find LaFever at all, much less alive.

Deputy Ray Gardner, who had recently completed training in search and rescue operations for people with autism and was aboard the helicopter, said LaFever would not have survived another 24 hours.

The helicopter took LaFever to Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch. The hospital said it could not release any information on his condition.

LaFever was trying to get to Page because his father, John LaFever of Colorado Springs, told him he would wire money to him in there, the sheriff's department said in a written release.

William LaFever had called his father on June 6 or 7 to say he was hiking in the Boulder area with his dog, and that someone had stolen some of his hiking gear and he had run out of money. John LaFever told his son to catch a ride to Page to collect the money.

Unbeknownst to his father, William LaFever apparently decided to hike down the Escalante River and then hitch a boat ride along Lake Powell to Page, rather than try to catch a ride, the sheriff's department said.

LaFever set out along the river but ran out of food. His dog left him, and LaFever began abandoning his gear until all he had was the clothing and shoes he was wearing when he was found, the sheriff's department said.

The dog hasn't been seen since. Authorities do not know why the dog ran off, Bronson said.

The early June phone call was the last time the family heard from LaFever, and his sister reported him missing on Monday, the sheriff's department said.

A telephone message left at the LaFevers' home in Colorado Springs wasn't immediately returned.

Gardner's training in searching for people with autism taught him they are naturally drawn to water, so the helicopter search focused on the Escalante River, the department said.

The helicopter team spotted LaFever Thursday afternoon, sitting in the Escalante River about five miles from Lake Powell, weakly waving at the aircraft.

Gardner was dumbfounded when LaFever identified himself because of the long odds of finding anyone in that country, the sheriff's department said.

"In all my career I have never seen someone so emaciated," Gardner was quoted as saying in the sheriff's department release. "I could not believe that he was alive, and feel certain that in another 24 hours he would not have been alive."

Gardner didn't immediately return a phone message late Thursday.

LaFever was so weak that he couldn't stand, but he was so eager for human contact that at first he would not stop talking long enough to eat or drink anything, the sheriff's department said. He eventually took a drink and ate a granola bar.

In Iowa, hope fades as relentless drought decimates crops

WELTON, Iowa (Reuters) - Bob Bowman runs his hand over a slender green corn leaf here on his Iowa farm, and sighs.

"This corn should be as high as my head right now, and it is only waist high," he says, as a cool morning breeze belies the 90-degree Fahrenheit temperatures forecast to descend by afternoon in Welton, Iowa.

"If we get rain real quick here, we might be down 25 percent," said Bowman of prospective losses from the persistent dryness. "If we don't get rain in the next two weeks, it will be a lot more serious."

Bowman farms 2,200 acres in east-central Iowa in one of the state's highest production areas. There may not be much to brag about this year, however.

After getting off to a record-fast planting pace following the mildest winter in decades in the Midwest that promised a record harvest, the corn crop got into trouble when rains became scarce, especially during pollination when yields are set. And a scorching heat wave hit the state recently.

Taking a cue from a deteriorating crop, the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Wednesday cut its estimate of this year's corn production in the United States, the world's top grower and exporter, by 12 percent, slashing the average yield by a whopping 20 bushels to 146 per acre.

Prices of corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade have surged 40 percent this summer in the wake of the worst drought in about 25 years in the Midwest grain belt.

In Iowa, the top U.S. corn-growing state, there is still time for many fields to make at least half to three-quarters of their production potential. But some are already too far gone.

All of Iowa is now considered as "abnormally dry," compared to none of the state a year ago, the U.S. Drought Monitor reported on Thursday.

About 13 percent of the state is now in severe drought, with the worst-hit areas in the east-central section and southeastern corner of the state. The entire eastern half of Iowa is in at least moderate drought.

Drought in the Midwest worsened over the past week, with a third of the nine-state region in severe to exceptional drought in the week ended July 10, up from about a quarter of the region a week earlier, the Drought Monitor said.

The toll that the drought is taking on the U.S. corn crop is so severe in some areas of the Midwest that farmers are writing off whole fields, or fear they will soon have to.

MISSOURI SUFFERS TOO

In Missouri, the misery is amplified. Corn farmers are watching weather forecasts and praying for rain relief while ranchers who have seen their pastures burn up in the heat and drought are scrambling to secure now hard-to-find and high-priced hay and grain to feed their hungry animals.

"The drought is very serious all the way across Missouri," said Eddie Hamill, state director of the USDA's Farm Service Agency.

To try to aid farmers who badly need hay for their cattle, the USDA has agreed to release land in 14 Missouri counties from conservation programs and Gov. Jay Nixon has requested federal approval to release land in all 114 counties throughout the state as part of a disaster declaration.

"This is the worst drought I have ever seen in my lifetime," said Hamill.

In Iowa, Gov. Terry Branstad will hold a town hall meeting in Mount Pleasant, about 130 miles from capital Des Moines, on Tuesday to talk to residents about the impact of the drought on the state.

Corn is pollinating now -- at least trying to. The plants need roughly an inch of water a week to grow well. Spotty rain showers have dotted the region, but overall Iowa, and the entire Midwest is well short of normal rainfall.

Neal Keppy, a 35-year-old corn grower in Eldridge, Iowa, said he's never seen conditions this dire. Of his 1,200 acres of corn, he has lost hope for roughly half the crop.

One field is so bad he has stopped treating it with fungicides and insecticides, essentially letting disease and insects take what the drought has not yet killed.

"I have never seen anything like this," he said.

Land in this part of Iowa goes for $10,000 an acre or more and is known for its rich soils and good rainfall. The area typically boasts some of the highest production in the state. But this year things are starkly different.

"I see a whole lot more stalks without ears on them than do have ears," said Keppy. "We need to get some rain."

Corn conditions are so bad on Missouri farmer Joel Abeln fields that he is talking with his insurance agent about mowing down a portion of his 6,500 acres. "I don't want to put any more money into it. It would be cheaper to just bush hog it down," said Abeln.

He estimates his very best fields on his north-central Missouri farm this year will likely yield only about 75 to 80 bushels per acre, down from his average of about 150 bushels an acre.

Corn that should be above his head is only about knee-high. "This is the worst drought I have been through," he said.
